First ALA Scholarship Winners Announced

At the American Lighting Association’s Women in Lighting (WIL) Annual Reception during June Lightovation, the Philanthropy Committee announced the creation of a Scholarship Fund under the ALA Education Foundation. The goal is to provide financial assistance for  continuing education, ALA Conference attendance, and professional certification opportunities.

On Monday, WIL announced that Candace Moore, director of eCommerce for ceiling fan manufacturer Matthews Fan Co., and Tiffany Mimnaugh, a sales consultant with Gross Electric, which has multiple locations in Ohio and Michigan, are the first recipients of an educational course courtesy of the Scholarship Fund.

Matthews Fan Co. and Gross Electric are both avid supporters of ALA as well as active members. Matthews Fan Co. is among the manufacturers lending guidance and expertise to the creation of the soon-to-be-released Ceiling Fan Manual and Gross Electric president Laurie Gross is a past ALA president and has served on the board of governors.

At the Lightovation event, members of WIL noted that the scholarship fund will sponsor participation in programs such as the Lighting Associate (LA), Lighting Specialist (LS), and Certified Lighting Consultant (CLC) designations. Specifics as to which educational courses Moore and Mimnaugh will select have not yet been announced.
