ALA  Launches Women in Lighting Scholarship Fund

The American Lighting Association (ALA) Women in Lighting (WIL) Philanthropy Committee has launched an initiative to support women in the lighting industry through a dedicated scholarship fund. Established under the ALA Education Foundation, the Women in Lighting Scholarship Fund will provide financial assistance for continuing education, ALA Conference attendance, and professional certification opportunities.

The fund was kickstarted by a generous contribution from the Kathy Skogen Memorial Fund, honoring the legacy of Kathy Skogen, a respected and long-term member of the lighting community who passed away in January. Known for her passion for empowering women and her support of the WIL mission, donations made in her memory have been directed to the scholarship fund to sponsor participation in programs such as the Lighting Associate (LA), Lighting Specialist (LS), and Certified Lighting Consultant (CLC) designations.

“As our industry continues to evolve, so does Women in Lighting,” said Tami Stauffacher, chair of the WIL Philanthropy Committee. “Thanks to the incredible support from the Kathy Skogen Memorial Fund, we’re proud to invest in the professional growth of the women who help shape and strengthen our industry.”

Fundraising efforts will officially launch on June 18 at 5 p.m. during the WIL Annual Reception at Lightovation, held in the Z-Lite showroom (TM4600). At the event, WIL will announce details on how to apply for scholarships and how others can contribute to the fund. Branded merchandise featuring the new WIL logo will also be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the scholarship fund. Merchandise and donation information will soon be available on the WIL philanthropy page at ALAMembers.com.

“Together, we can invest in and support the women who make such a powerful impact on our industry,” added Stauffacher. “We invite everyone to attend the WIL reception and be part of this exciting new chapter.”
