New & First-Time Homebuyers Reveal When They Plan to Buy Lighting in Exclusive Survey

The closest thing to a crystal ball, the results of Home News Now’s much-anticipated Consumer Insights Now (CIN) report – sponsored by American First Finance –provides recent and relevant statistics on what new homeowners and soon-to-be homebuyers are prioritizing when it comes to furnishing their homes.

The newly released CIN includes more lighting information than previous editions, gathered specifically on behalf of Lighting News Now readers. Because of the volume of information compiled, the findings will be released weekly in an easy-to-understand format over five installments. Best of all, the information gathered is recent — the survey was conducted last month.

While lighting purchases continue to lag behind large expenditures such as appliances and  furniture, the lighting category ranks higher than other areas of the home. Of particular interest to lighting showrooms and manufacturers are the answers to where these homeowners and potential homebuyers are looking for design ideas, which retail channels they are choosing, and which rooms they plan to tackle first.

One of the revelations in CIN is consumers’ willingness to consult with a professional — this especially is true among younger new homebuyers. In fact, 25% of those surveyed plan to work with an interior designer or seek out an expert.

As consumers are spending more on their homes due to short supply and interest rates, having professional guidance to maximize the look of their investment appears to be a service they value. Lighting showrooms could tweak their messaging to new homebuyers to address this readiness.

In addition to providing demographics such as income and age, CIN reveals the type of property purchased and homeowners’ priorities in their first year of residence.
