Executive Staff Changes at ALA

Last week the American Lighting Association (ALA) announced President Larry Lauck will be retiring at the end of February and a search will begin to fill that key role.

In the interim, Laurie Gross of Gross Electric, a past ALA Board of Governors member most recently serving as Chair, will act as President until a new President is hired. A statement released by the ALA Board read, “Laurie is a long-time veteran in the lighting industry and was instrumental in supporting Larry over the last two years. She will ensure the team continues to build upon the momentum achieved by Larry and our ALA team.”

In 2024, ALA launched its “Reimagine ALA” theme and touted new programs and tools that it developed in response to feedback from members.

The Board of Governors’ letter added, “We appreciate all that Larry has done leading our organization during his tenure. He was instrumental in guiding ALA during this period of meaningful change.”

Lauck stated, “I will always cherish the many friendships that I have developed over the last 30 years while serving the members of ALA. I am fully confident that the strategic changes that we made the past two years to reimagine ALA will serve as the foundation for a stronger association in the coming years. I have the utmost confidence in the ALA staff and the ALA Board of Governors to see these changes through.”

Another key staff change is the departure of Michael Weems, who has served as VP/Public Policy for ALA for the past 11 years. Weems joined the association in 2014, after spending 10 years working for the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C.
