In Memoriam: Jack Z. Alper

Beloved lighting rep Jack Alper of Richardson, Texas, passed away on August 4 at the age of 93.

The lighting industry mourns the loss of long-time lighting rep Jack Alper, who passed away this week. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 7, at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.

Jack was born on February 19, 1933, to Benjamin Alperowitz and Mae (Teiber) Alperowitz in Brooklyn, New York. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Business degree from the University of Miami. Shortly after graduating from college, Jack embarked on what would become an extraordinary professional journey, founding Jack Alper & Associates. With dedication, perseverance, and an entrepreneurial spirit, he successfully owned and operated his business for more than 66 years before retiring.

On July 29, 1988, Jack married the love of his life, Deborah Bailey, in Maui, Hawaii. Together, they shared a life filled with love and treasured memories.

Jack was a man of many interests and hobbies, with a lifelong curiosity about the world around him. He loved to travel, enjoying the opportunity to experience new places and create lasting memories along the way. He had a particular passion for the United States and world history and was an avid enthusiast of airplanes and aviation. A pilot himself, flying was more than a pastime for Jack — it reflected his enduring fascination with aircraft and the freedom of flight.

Service, fellowship, and tradition were also important parts of Jack’s life. He was an active Mason beginning in 1958, a commitment that spanned nearly seven decades.

Jack will be remembered for the relationships he built and the family he loved. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His long life was marked by hard work, curiosity, commitment, and a wide range of interests that brought him great enjoyment throughout the years.

Jack will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved him.

He was survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Alper of Richardson, Texas; two children, Amy (Marty) Fritz of McKinney, Texas and Jermy Harper of Richardson, Texas; five grandchildren, Zachary (Emily) Fritz of Parker, Colorado, Nicholas Fritz of Austin, Texas, Brett (Hailey) Harper of Red Oak, Texas, Hunter Harper also of Red Oak, Texas, and Luke Harper of Corinith, Texas; one great-grandson, Boe Harper; nephew, Bruce Cohen of New York City, New York; niece, Rorye Hoberman of Harding, New Jersey; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Mae Alperowitz; sister, Anette Levinson; and sister, Rita Cohen.
