Jonathan Charles Launches Major Lighting Intro in High Point

More than 60 lighting designs and 45 pieces of art will make their debut at market, building on earlier introductions in those categories.

Greensboro, N.C.-based Jonathan Charles will unveil its first comprehensive lighting collection as well as a major expansion of its art offering, marking the latest step in the brand’s evolution toward design for the whole home.

Long known for furniture with distinctive materials, craftsmanship and attention to detail, Jonathan Charles is extending that same point of view into other layers that complete an interior.

Rather than treating lighting, art and accessories as separate additions, the growing categories are being developed as part of a more cohesive approach to the home — one in which furniture, objects, art and illumination work together to create a complete environment.

“Furniture was never the hard part. Matching the light above the table and the piece on the wall to the tone of the room, across three suppliers who had never spoken to each other, was. Now it all comes from one place,” explained founder & CEO Jonathan Sowter.

The fall launch represents Jonathan Charles’ most significant commitment to lighting to date in a 60-piece collection that spans chandeliers, sconces, table lamps and floor lamps.

Designers attending market can view the collection in the JC Lighting Gallery, a new dedicated space that reinforces lighting as an important part of the brand’s broader vision for the home.

“A room takes its mood from its light. That is not something you hand to a supplier who has never seen the rest of the room,” Sowter added.

Art will also take on a larger role in the Jonathan Charles showroom this fall with the introduction of 45 pieces. The expanded assortment explores a broader range of scale, material and subject, creating another layer through which designers can bring the Jonathan Charles point of view into an interior.

Together, the new lighting and art introductions reflect a broader evolution taking place across Jonathan Charles. Furniture remains at the foundation of the brand, while lighting, art and accessories add new opportunities to layer material, form, texture and personality throughout the home.

Observed Sowter, “We are not making pieces to match a finish. We are making pieces someone will still want on the wall long after the room has changed around them.”

The Jonathan Charles showroom is at 122 N. Hamilton Street. Shuttle Stop: 16 (Red Line)
