The American Lighting Association<\/a> (ALA) has contracted Palmer Schoening of Schoening Strategies in Washington, D.C., as a government affairs consultant after last month\u2019s departure of Michael Weems, ALA\u2019s long-time VP\/Public Policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In light of the recent and ongoing governmental changes under the current administration, many ALA members felt it was imperative to have someone appointed as soon as possible to oversee this important sector. To that end, Schoening has worked with several small business trade associations \u2013 including the National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED<\/a>) \u2013 to provide them with a presence in Washington over the past 10 years. In fact, it was the NAED, which is a partner association of ALA, along with other firms, that strongly recommended Schoening be hired based on his experience as a representative in a related industry. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ALA is also a member of the Family Business Coalition<\/a>, which Schoening heads. The Family Business Coalition fights for tax relief for America\u2019s family-owned and operated businesses. With so many multigenerational businesses within the ALA membership, Schoening\u2019s expertise will help the industry during this important year in tax policy, as many of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act are scheduled to expire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI look forward to serving the unique membership of ALA, which includes manufacturers, retailers, and manufacturers\u2019 representatives, all of whom have a significant stake in the current policy battles happening on Capitol Hill. ALA needs to have a seat at the table during this important year and into the future,\u201d Schoening said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the ALA, Schoening maintains top-tier relationships with the administration and other key members of Congress. He has testified in front of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship and holds degrees from Hillsdale College and George Mason University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schoening will begin immediately to advocate for ALA on Capitol Hill, manage the ALA Political Action Committee, and enhance ALA\u2019s overall legislative efforts in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
