{"id":3840,"date":"2026-07-12T18:14:48","date_gmt":"2026-07-12T18:14:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lightingnewsnow.com\/?p=3840"},"modified":"2026-07-12T18:14:48","modified_gmt":"2026-07-12T18:14:48","slug":"alan-karen-receives-lifetime-achievement-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lightingnewsnow.com\/?p=3840","title":{"rendered":"Alan Karen Receives Lifetime Achievement Award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>At the close of the Lighting One convention, Alan Karen of Satco was announced as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year\u2019s recipient of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lighting-one.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lighting One<\/a>\u2019s Lifetime Achievement Award \u2013 Alan Karen of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.satco.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Satco<\/a> \u2013 was unable to be at the awards presentation in person due to a prior commitment, however, Lighting One created a special ceremony for him in the Satco showroom during Lightovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI couldn\u2019t be more proud and honored to be here to celebrate Alan,\u201d noted Angie Prost, vice president of Lighting One at the event. \u201cAlan has been in this industry for over 30 years and has been a partner to Lighting One for over 25 years. He is always supportive of our showroom members \u2013 whether it\u2019s a supplier partner, a retail partner, DMC, the American Lighting Association \u2013 and he\u2019s always there and willing to help out.\u201d Turning to Karen when presenting the award, she added, \u201cIn the past 10 years that I\u2019ve known you, you\u2019ve been a mentor to me in my role and I really appreciate everything you\u2019ve done in the lighting industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gregg Garofalo, president of Lighting One, said, \u201cAlan is a business partner, a friend and an industry leader. He\u2019s someone you can trust. When he says he\u2019s going to do something, he does it. He\u2019s also fun to be with and a great gentleman.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In accepting the award, Karen stated, \u201cI am wowed by all of this. First, let me thank the owners of Satco: Billy Gildin and Rhonda Grobman. They are the second generation running the company.\u201d [Editor\u2019s Note: Bill Gildin, president and CEO is the son of founder Herb Gildin; Rhonda Grobman, treasurer, is the daughter of founder Lou Kauffman.]\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Karen also gave a shout out to Brian Brandes, senior vice president, whom he has worked alongside for 20+ years. He told the audience that Brandes has likened their business partnership to the iconic phrase \u201cwords and music\u201d from the hit 1983 film <em>Eddie and the Cruisers.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEverything that you see displayed here [gesturing around the showroom] is the \u2018music\u2019 that Brian creates and I turn around and put \u2018words\u2019 to it so I can go out and sell it with the most amazing sales team out there,\u201d Karen said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Noting that Satco is celebrating its 60<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary this year, Karen added that \u201cThis is the 20<sup>th<\/sup> year for Nuvo Lighting and has been 10 years since we created our Canadian business. And it\u2019s now three months for my son, Luke, who just joined the company.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In closing, Karen said, \u201cI can\u2019t thank you enough for this award. I want to truly thank all of the lighting showrooms that have supported Satco. You got us to the point where we were first a lamp manufacturer, then a lighting manufacturer, and look what we\u2019re introducing now with Nuvo Monogram. I am humbled by all of you coming to share in this with me.
